Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 and South Beach Miami



Dreaming of the sun on your face, wind in your hair and taste the salt on your lips? Well, here is something interesting for the sailors to begin planning for ...

The Volvo Ocean Race will be back next year and the calendar has been announced. In a sample of the action here is the promotional video of the race in 2008-2009, with lots of salt, adrenaline - and moments of terror!



The Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 includes a completely new format for the nine months from start to finish. It provides for a long weekend to compete in every port in the ports and parties, giving viewers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of these magnificent racing yachts.

If you are already hooked on sailing, or just curious to see what it's all about, take note of the dates so you will not miss any of the action happens in a place near you - or why not start planning a trip to one of the ports of call.

Everything begins in Alicante, Spain October 20, 2011 with a week of festivities, and ends in Galway (W coast of Ireland) with a coastal race, the July 7, 2011.

The course takes sailors on an incredible odyssey of more than 39,000 nm
Stage 1: 5-25 Nov., 2011 - Alicante (Spain) Cape Town (South Africa)
Stage 2: December 11 to January 1, 2012 - Cape Town to Abu Dhabi (UAE)
Stage 3: January 14 to February 4 - Abu Dhabi to Sanya (China)
Leg 4: February 19 to March 8 - Sanya to Auckland (New Zealand)
Leg 5: March 18 to April 4 - Auckland at Itajaí (E coast of Brazil)
Step 6: 22 ab 6 May - Itajaí to Miami (USA)
Leg 7: 20-31 May - Miami to Lisbon (Portugal)
Leg 8, June 10-17 - Lisbon to Lorient (France - through the Azores)
Leg 9: 1-3 July - Lorient Galway (via Fastnet Rock)

The 2011-12 race will be the 11th since the series began in 1973 - when it was known as the Whitbread Round the World Race. For more information about the event visit the official website volvooceanrace.com.
